Toyota Grants a Wish on NBC’s ‘Today’ Show

Toyota’s 2013 RAV4 “Wish Granted” advertising campaign, which was launched with a Super Bowl ad, received more national exposure Monday. During NBC-TV’s “Today” Show, co-hosts Kathie Lee and Hoda Kobt pulled the name of one lucky audience member and presented her with an all-new RAV4. The New York City-based show filmed Monday’s segment in Los Angeles.

Toyota Avalon, Avalon Hybrid Earn 5-Star Safety Ratings in NHTSA Tests

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration continues to test new or redesigned-for-2013 models, and it just awarded the Toyota Avalon a five-star safety rating.

The 2013 Avalon's overall five-star score was composed of five and four stars across the different areas of crash testing: It earned four stars in frontal testing, five stars in side-crash testing and a four-star score in rollover tests. The hybrid model received the same scores.

Toyota's largest sedan was redesigned for 2013 with more exciting styling, a luxurious interior and new comfort and convenience features.

In addition to the two Avalon models, 10 other 2013 Toyota, Lexus and Scion models have earned OVERALL five-star ratings: Toyota Camry, Camry Hybrid, Prius, Venza AWD and Venza FWD; Scion tC; and Lexus CT 200h, ES 300h, RX 350 AWD and RX 450 AWD.

Toyota Posts 26.6% Year-Over-Year Gain in January Sales, Nearly Double the Industry Average

January was a good sales month for the auto industry and a great month for Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), with total sales of 157,725 Toyota, Scion and Lexus vehicles, up 26.6 percent from the same period a year ago on a raw volume basis – nearly double the industry average. On a daily selling rate basis, TMS sales were up 21.6 percent.

Toyota Division sales jumped up 26.1 percent on a volume basis, Lexus sales leaped 32.1 percent and Scion sales climbed 38.4 percent. Industry-wide, sales were up about 14.4 percent over a year ago.

Prius and Corolla led the way in the Toyota Division with gains of 36.5 percent for Prius – the top-selling hybrid’s best January ever – and 32.4 percent for Corolla. Camry sales continued strong, up 12.7 percent over last January, giving the best-selling car in America in 2012 a strong start in 2013. The all-new Avalon completed its first full month of sales up 50.4 percent while the all-new RAV4, which began arriving at dealerships in January, was up 18.2 percent, and every single truck model posted double-digit gains.

“January was a good start to the year for the industry, and a great start for Toyota,” Bill Fay, group vice president and Toyota Division general manager, told journalists in a conference call today. “We expect continued stability in the economy to bode well for the industry in the months ahead, with pent-up demand and an influx of new models combining to bring people into dealerships.”

Fay also noted that Toyota’s RAV4 Super Bowl commercial with Kaley Cuoco, a star of the hit TV show, “The Big Bang Theory,” has already generated more than nine million views online in just five days. (The commercial can be viewed by click on http://is.gd/pfnX1B.)

In the Lexus Division, car sales led the way with an increase of 60.7 percent over the previous January, and the new ES continues to sell well, said Tim Morrison, vice president of sales and dealer development.

“The IS world premiere in Detroit was the really big news for us in January,” he continued. “The webcast of the reveal on Lexus.com and our Facebook page was viewed by more than 600,000 people around the world, in 99 countries from Albania to Zimbabwe. Early reaction to the vehicle from journalists, customers and dealers has been fantastic. And dealers can’t wait to get it in their showrooms.”

Toyota to Conduct 2014 Tundra World Debut and Panel Discussion at Chicago Auto Show 

Toyota will stage the world debut of the redesigned 2014 Tundra full-size pickup truck at a press conference at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show. The press conference will take place Thursday, Feb. 7, at 9:00 a.m. (CST) in the Grand Ballroom at McCormick Place.

As part of the world debut of the 2014 Tundra, Toyota will conduct a panel discussion following the press conference from 11:00 to 11:30 a.m. (CST) moderated by Mark Williams, editor of pickuptrucks.com. Panel members will include Toyota Division Group Vice President and General Manager Bill Fay, Tundra Chief Engineer Mike Sweers, and Calty Research and Design President Kevin Hunter. Both the Tundra press conference and panel discussion will be broadcast live via Livestream and can be viewed at: http://new.livestream.com/toyota.

A total of 19 Toyota, Scion and Lexus models are listed in “2013 Best New Car Values” by Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine. Of the total, 13 models are listed among the winners in categories – ranked by price, performance, value, safety, roominess and driving impressions – for Best in Class, Best New model, Best Resale and Most Fuel-Efficient. The other six models are included in the “Worth a Look” designation that spotlights five models in each category that score high enough for serious consideration but did not achieve the top honor.

Toyota vaulted to #1 among the world’s automakers in CNW Research’s latest ranking of “Corporate Good Citizens.” CNW said, “In the past, local dealers carried the load by supporting ground-zero events and venues like Little League Baseball and local charities. For Toyota, the Prius and an ever expanding hybrid lineup along with similar local community projects help boost it from number 4 in 2002 to first place in 2012.” CNW noted that surveyed consumers were more than twice as willing to consider the products of a company that scored 8-plus on the 10-point “good citizen” scale compared to those rated below 8.
